RCSW CLINICAL SUPERVISION

In alignment with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) requirements, our supervision program assists candidates in fulfilling the necessary 100 hours of clinical supervision.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE EMPOWERING, NOT INTIMIDATING

At Kindred Roots, we believe that healing and professional development flourish in authentic connections. Our down-to-earth approach ensures that supervision is not just a regulatory requirement but a transformative experience that prepares you for the complexities of clinical social work.

Understanding the process:

clinical supervision and registry requirements

We know that the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) can be… confusing. We are here to support you throughout your entire Clinical journey! From the application process, to tracking hours, to quarterly check-ins and of course — the scaryAF ASWB exam. Rest assured that we will walk the path alongside you and ensure that you are prepared, organized and on track to meet your personal and professional goals!

Step #1: Consult Call

  • Just like finding a therapist, the right match between a supervisor and supervisee is EVERYTHING!

  • Take advantage of a FREE 15 minute consult call with Allegra, where you can share your goals, get to know her vibe and ensure it feels like a good fit.

  • If the consult goes well and you are ready to take the next step towards an application, you will be provided information for step #2.

Step #2: Applying to the clinical registry (Pre-supervision Stream)

  • You will be provided with a PDF to walk you step-by-step through your initial application, and give you the best chance of being approved to start the process of your first attempt (don’t stress - this will make sense after your consult call!)

  • Once your application is ready for submission, Allegra will review and make final edits before you send it off — FREE of charge!

Step #3: Post-Approval - supervision begins

  • Once you have been approved to begin your supervision hours, you and Allegra will work together to design a supervision plan and schedule that best meets your professional goals AND personal needs!

  • Opportunities for Individual Supervision and Group Supervision will be provided, ensuring a well-rounded experience.

  • A template will be provided to assist you with effectively tracking hours.

Step #4: bi-annual acsw check-ins

  • You will be required to send updates to the ACSW Clinical Board every 6 months to update on your progress.

  • Allegra will provide you with feedback for your bi-annual reporting and ensure all paperwork is signed and completed for each of your review periods.

  • Please note: Staying on top of your reporting periods will be YOUR responsibility, as well as submission. This will be part of the plan created during step #3.

Step #5: hours completed, final review

  • Once you have completed your 100 hours of supervision (made up of a minimum of 50 1-on-1 supervision hours, group supervision hours and a minimum of 10 session recordings for review) a final review will be sent to the ACSW Clinical Board.

  • Once your final review as been approved, you will be granted permission to write the ASWB Clinical Exam.

Step #6: ASWB Exam Prep

  • Allegra will work with you to create a personalized study plan, including study goals, timelines and content reviews.

  • Any questions related to how and when to write the ASWB Exam can be directed to Allegra for support.

  • Optional sessions will be available to work through exam anxiety, strategy and confidence building.

Step #7: You’re an RCSW!

  • Yay! If you made it here, it’s because YOU did the damn thing!

  • Meeting annual competency requirements to keep your RCSW active includes 10 hours a year of supervision.

  • Elect to continue working with Allegra on annual continuing competency, or move on to a new supervisor(s) as you see fit!

acsw clinical registry requirements at a glance:

1) Application (Direct Information Found Here)

  • Note: You need to complete 3 courses; 1) Human Behavior and Development from a Biopsychosocial Perspective; 2) Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment Planning; and 3) Psychotherapy and Clinical Practice including evidence-based approaches. You do not need to have these completed to apply — however, you need to have them completed by the time you finish supervision hours!

2) 100 Hours of Clinical Supervision

  • 50 of those hours need to be 1-on-1 supervision

  • 10 of those hours need to be reviewed recordings of direct client sessions

  • The other 40 hours can be made up of group supervision, 1-on-1 supervision, and/or direct session reviews)

3) Once Courses and Supervision Hours are completed, you will be approved to write the ASWB Clinical Social Work Exam. You must successfully pass this exam before you are approved to use the protected title of Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Individual Supervision & Session Recording Reviews: $225/hr

    Group Supervision: $100/hr

Note: We understand that this is a substantial investment in your professional development. Please pace your sessions as able to balance your personal financial needs, and remember that this investment is a tax write-off!

  • As per ACSW mandate, complete of the 100 Supervision Hours must be done in no less than 2 years, and no more than 5 years.

  • Unfortunately, they are not. As supervision is not a therapeutic session, Allegra is serving you as a SUPERVISOR, not as a therapist.

  • The choice is totally yours! Feel free to meet Allegra virtually through Jane App, in-person at our Okotoks Healing Hub or a combination of both!
