WORRY DRAGONS: A WORKSHOP FOR ANXIOUS CHILDREN
REGISTER YOUR 8-11 YEAR OLD TO PARTICIPATE IN A 10 WEEK GROUP THERAPY SESSION TO HELP THEM SLAY THEIR WORRY DRAGONS
Facilitated by Rayan Zaza, R. Psych & Kristy Thackeray, MSW, BSW, RSW
Are you seeing signs of anxiety in your child aged 8-11? Not to worry. This could help.
If your child struggles with worries or anxieties, we can help them learn to manage. Using the CBT-based Taming Your Worry Dragons program developed at BC Children's Hospital, our group of 12 registrants will begin to recognize how anxiety affects their body, thoughts, and behaviours and give them the skills and tools they need to challenge anxious thinking. The goal of this group therapy series is that if we teach kiddos how to tame those dragons they can learn to enjoy themselves and enjoy life without carrying the weight of their worries.
In general, this group will be helpful for any child struggling with worries and/or anxiety. The goal of our group is to help kids build skills to manage their worries. It is a safe space for our participants to talk about, and process, their worries. It is also a place where parents can receive guidance towards supporting their anxious kids effectively.
Kindred Roots therapists Kristy and Rayan will encourage participants to do their "detective work" each week, which will then be discussed in following sessions. Parents will be informed of this, and we ask that parents support their children in completing the weekly tasks.
We want the best for your child, and the other children involved in the Taming Your Worry Dragons group. If you have any questions please reach out to us so that we can work with you and your child's best interests!
