Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.


In this recorded conversation, Kindred Roots therapist Hannah Barrett, talks to fellow MSW student Marin McCue about the importance of land acknowledgements and the challenges of decolonizing the therapy space. They share their personal experiences and reflections on white saviorism, performative actions, and the ongoing process of learning and unlearning. They emphasize the need for self-reflection, accountability, and taking action to dismantle oppressive systems. The conversation also touches on the influence of social media and the fear of being perceived in a certain way. In this conversation, Hannah and the guest discuss the importance of self-compassion and its role in resisting oppressive systems. They explore the concept of self-regulation and how it can be reframed as grounding and being present with one's emotions.
